Genome Wide Association Studies
Genome Wide Association Studies
Recent genome wide association studies have identified genes involved in common disorders, including obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Researchers use Affymetri and Illumina gene chips to scan hundreds of thousands of SNP's across thousands of individuals to find changes associated with the disorders. Dave Micklos and Jan Witkowski for a lively discussion of DNA in the news from world-renowned Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory shed some light on GWA studies.
